Premium...

I had the pleasure of attending this premier. The movie was great. A few things here and there I would have tweeked or done different, but this was Pete Chatmon's vision, not mine, so I digress. The were minor celebs there, mostly producers, casting directors, managers, and agents though. Zoe Saldana was there for the movie and then bounced. Networking at its finest.

"Black Girl Pain"

"My mama said life would be this hard
Growin up days as a black girl scarred
In every way still we've come so far
They just know the name they don't know the pain
So please hold your heads up high
Don't be ashamed of yourself know I
Will carry it forth til the day I die cause
They just know the name they don't know the pain, black girl"

(Black Girl Pain- Talib Kweli Featuring Jean Grae: The Beautiful Struggle album)

I love this song! The reasons are endless, boundless, and words cannot express the depth I feel the pain...

Scared to look up in the mirror
Black girl, please take a peek
the face you wear, was here before
your mothers had it, your fathers had it
millions have worn that face
Yet you wont take a peek
look at yourself, my love
with the rebirth of generations
the scars have healed
Smile Beautiful Girl
smile for them
show your appreciation for their gift to you
I know that pain, I wore it for most of my life
the mirror and I are still only acquaintances
but everyday I look at myself
and say thank you to the ancestors
for the face they chose to give me
smiling knowing I am the gift
no more tears Sweetheart
no ore Black Girl Pain, no more Black Girl Scarred
live Black Girl Pride
Black Girl Hope
Black Girl Love
Black Girl Peace
You are the reflection they hoped for,
the woman they bled for
the woman they died for
Baby Girl, you are the air they breathed
they named you way back before the shps and shackles
take your name, take your pride
walk tall Black Girl
no hanging your head in shame,
shaming the elders with lack of realization of you
be gorgeous Black Girl
look in the mirror baby
I'll look too
We living Black Girl Glory now...
